About AtlantaStar
Independent progressive journalism for Atlanta, Georgia.
Our Mission
AtlantaStar was founded to give Atlanta a fearless, independent progressive voice. In an era of media consolidation and newsroom cutbacks, we believe that Atlanta deserves a digital-native outlet unafraid to hold power accountable, celebrate community, and tell the stories that shape this city.
We cover Atlanta politics, Georgia state government, business, culture, sports, and community affairs with the editorial independence that comes from being community-owned and reader-supported — not beholden to corporate advertisers or hedge funds.
Our Values
- Independence: We are not owned by a corporation, private equity firm, or political party. Our editorial decisions are made by journalists, not advertisers.
- Accountability: We name names. We ask hard questions. We follow the money.
- Community: Atlanta's diverse neighborhoods, communities, and voices drive our coverage — not what's trending nationally.
- Transparency: We disclose funding sources, corrections, and our editorial standards publicly.
- Accuracy: We correct errors quickly and prominently. Human editorial review is required before all AI-assisted content is published.
Our Team
AtlantaStar is a bootstrap operation run by its founding editor and a growing community of Atlanta-based contributors. We are actively building a newsroom of like-minded journalists who believe in Atlanta's potential and its people.
